As age verification providers are not regulated, users could face providing their sensitive data over and over across different platforms.
This means ID documents could be sent off to other countries and some sites will pick providers with poor privacy terms and conditions.
We must have a choice!
Grindr is rolling out age verification for UK users to comply with the Online Safety Act.
The Act lets platforms choose the provider to do these checks and requires no certification for high privacy standards.
Users deserve to have their data handled securely.

"'I'm sure that Texas et al. will decide that that anything they don't like (1984? Fahrenheit 451? Dreams From My Father?) is adult-only and will require this hard-to-get credential."
And here is the crux of the matter
All the #AgeVerification #AdultOnly moral panic is merely to establish a precedent for a control mechanism
Once the control mechanism is in place, nationally, what is specifically to *be* controlled will be established at a later date
Shaffer told the justices that young people should be block from accessing #porn, but there were less intrusive ways of doing that than #AgeVerification. He suggested educating parents & using content-filtering software were better routes, but Justice Amy Coney #Barrett pushed back on that, citing her own children.

In response to statutes in #Texas & elsewhere, #Pornhub cut off service to states requiring #AgeVerification.
The #porn industry plaintiffs, who formed an association called the #FreeSpeech Coalition, sued to block the TX #law before it went into effect in 2023. Derek L. Shaffer, an attorney for the coalition, argued the lower court ruling allowing the law could “open the door to an emerging wave of #regulations that imperil #FreeSpeech online.”
