Been deploying #Vaultwarden a few days ago to test #Bitwarden against #1Password and so far the experience has been pretty solid :drgn_happy:

Just needed to clean up entries a bit, since Bitwarden doesn't allow for grouping of custom fields, and doesn't have as many entry types (i.e. no server settings, email settings, software licences), so I just merged those with related credential entries and discarded some that are no longer needed.

I could see myself keeping this around and save the annual 67 EUR fee

What a stupid blog post. 1Password is closed source. As pretty as it is and as much marketing hype they're able to buy you will never know if there is a backdoor in it.

That alone should disqualify it from any consideration in 2025. Full stop.

I am exactly the kind of nerd who reads his todo item marked 'check out chezmoi real quick', finds the only real thing it would do for him is injection of password manager values via its templating system, and decides instead:

oh yea, I've been meaning to check out `op`, the #1Password CLI tool, I bet I can just use that in my existing dotfiles setup

Oh man - Super cool. If you tell Claude Code to use the 1Password CLI to use credentials it will make sure it has everything it needs and you can keep all your credentials secret while keeping it really easy for Claude to test things out as it goes. #1password

#1Password 7 doesn't work so well for me in macOS Sequoia. It often takes invoking the keyboard shortcut multiple times to fill in Firefox (I haven't tried the other browsers). So I thought I'd give #Vaultwarden (#Bitwarden clone) a try. I discovered that it doesn't automatically import attachments, nor does it support markdown format in item notes, which I use heavily. Although I've invested a lot of time self-hosting Vaultwarden, this may be enough to cause me to use 1Password 8. 🤢

Gee, I don't have this problem with the pay-once 1Password 7 that lets me keep local vaults unlike version 8 that forces users into paying a subscription fee for only cloud vaults subject to this crapola:

I'm really glad I've given #VivaldiBrowser another try.

I think I tried a while ago, and I just couldn't get #1Password to work on it. But now it seems to be working well, and I can ditch any other browser. So, now it's on my Mac, MacBook, phone and tablet.

And I've just discovered #VivaldiWorkspaces – oh my goodness! As a freelancer working on different projects at the same time, with different online systems, this is a great addition to the browser.

(And I'm really happy I'm on #VivaldiSocial as well!)

I still don't know whether to trust any Google-related website (I'm still tied to it in a couple of ways), so I've kept Chrome simply for doing Google stuff. But I suppose if Vivaldi is safe enough, I could just completely ditch Chrome.

If you use #Safari on #macOS & are driven mad by overlapping — and therefore inaccessible — login credentials from #Apple’s #Passwords app & #1Password, I came across a fix: under Safari > Settings > Advanced, add a custom styelsheet to reposition 1Password’s menu. (Save a file containing the code in the screenshot, name it “something.css”, save it somewhere, and select it from the “Style sheet” menu.) I stole this from somewhere, of course (Stack Overflow?). Copy the alt tag to save typing.

I've now moved all my 1Password data from the US to Canada: support.1password.com/regions/

Apparently you can just sign up for Canada or EU storage now when you create an account. 👍

That just leaves finding a good replacement for Todoist.

Y'all, I'm kind of struggling with my switch to #KeePassXC from #1Password. 1Password allowed me to save credit card information then easily use it while browsing. #KeePass doesn't really seem to have that option. No big deal, I'll just use Firefox to store credit card info instead. Only problem, it doesn't seem to save the code, so what good does that do? I have to get up and go find the card or save the code somewhere else? Not ideal. Meh.
