The entire archive of all CDC datasets uploaded before January 28th, 2025 has been backed up on Internet Archive.
Incredible work everyone. Science will never be silenced!
@luckytran if there is anything in them that might make somebody interested in falsifying them signing them makes a world of sense.
@luckytran But, where is The Internet Archive located, physically as well as a juridical entity....?
Well....?
Yes!
@luckytran Excellent!
It's madness that this is happening
@luckytran Internet Archive are heroes!
@luckytran That's great! Would also highly recommend having a local backup as well, just in case something happens to archive.org
Now who's gonna archive internet archive?
As the old saying goes: Who will backup the backups?
(I know they're gunning to destroy the last free info repositories and it has me worried.)
@luckytran We need mirrors of this outside the USA. Very concerned about the IA's vulnerability due to their location.
Probably needs to be in multiple places lest they come after Internet Archive
@luckytran Is there a way to update data here? For anyone say working for the #CDC #NIH to, idk post the data for shits and giggles?
@luckytran Well Done! Bravo !
@luckytran @briankrebs can we backup the Internet Archive on storage outside the US? Serious question.
@luckytran fuck off back to Australia, or better yet Vietnam, you retard. You are not an American.
@luckytran you might be interested in this @firefoxx66

Lots of'em
@luckytran now expect a new concerted effort from the new fash US govt to take down/block internet archive...
The entire archive of all CDC datasets uploaded before January 28th, 2025 has been backed up on Internet Archive.
@luckytran I got my copy.
Thanks to everyone, who contributed to that.
@luckytran is it a problem that it appears to be uploaded by a CDC account? Like, is it possible that will get removed?
@luckytran I do most sincerely hope that the @internetarchive is making a back-up which is not on American soil and is out of reach of American goons.
It might be wise to air-gap it, at least for a while.
@lispi314 @ireneista @luckytran the full archive is 105GB
@impossibleibex @lispi314 @luckytran oh that's not bad at all. let us take a moment to encourage anyone with a spare hundred gigs to seed a copy
If y'all seeding made sure to use the torrent file named "full-20250128-cdc-datasets-USETHIS.torrent" from the dataset https://archive.org/download/20250128-cdc-datasets instead of IA's auto-generated one. The auto-gen one is missing files and a bit buggy.
Direct link: https://archive.org/download/20250128-cdc-datasets/full-20250128-cdc-datasets-USETHIS.torrent
@luckytran Let's hope Musk (should I call him stench?) doesn't find a way to kill archive.org
Simply excellent. Seems like burning book is not so efficient anymore…
@luckytran did anyone check that the contents is actually what it says on the tin?
@luckytran Make local copies before they come after the Internet Archive. For democracy!
@luckytran
If people listened to the CDC, they would never use public pools again. Tell me they listen.
@luckytran And now it is high time to move the Internet Archive out of US jurisdiction while they still can, right?
@luckytran @jlw_the_jobber Now all we need is to back up the Internet Archive.
@luckytran and this is why we need the internet archive...so that this imfo can't be permanently purged
@luckytran Thank goodness. Thanks for sharing, I just bookmarked this.
@luckytran Trump and friends being so fiercely anti-reality, anti-science and anti-accountability, I wonder what they are going to try against Internet Archive. The IA is based in the US, and I just expect the government to do everything they can to shut it down.
Does the IA replicate their data in other jurisdiction?
@luckytran That's a win in my book.
@luckytran A concern i have: Is the #InternetArchive safe by itself?
@GerhardD @luckytran it is not. but at least for this data set, we currently have almost 500 people seeding the torrent
@GerhardD @luckytran no, which is why you fetch the torrent of this archive.
I asked this yesterday and still have no reply:
How exposed is the #InternetArchive to government attack in the US? How much is backed up elsewhere?
Is it still best to contribute financially to archive.org? Or are there other bodies outside the US that need funds to back it up and that may be lower risk?
Any information welcome.
They're San Francisco based, so they at least have some protection from being based in a blue state, and their primary data centers are in the bay area. But they have backups in the Netherlands and in Egypt.
At one point, the Egyptian backup was a full mirror. I don't know if it still is. I think donating to them directly is probably best, they'll redirect it if it can be more useful elsewhere.
Thanks - I'd forgotten the Alexandria connection. Good to know there is also a backup in NL.
@luckytran Well... is the Archive US-based? If so, let's hopefor r/datahoarder.
Oh, wait.
@luckytran people paid good money for that science. We can't just throw it away
@mmmelton @luckytran if people taxes contributed to the scientific research and findings then the information belongs to us, yes? If that’s the case isn’t it illegal to delete all the pages?
I made a magnet link from the torrent and kept only the first tracker, does it work?
@luckytran Keep circulating the tapes!
