The CDC is joking about mass infection, and still are not recommending masks. This is NOT how to do effective science communication.
It's outrageous that the CDC is using a Black person to represent viruses in this meme.
Memes can be effective tools in science communication, but only when they are inclusive and empowering, not when they stigmatize or make fun of a harmful situation. This is not acceptable, @cdcgov!
@luckytran He's just there showing you how to wash your hands.
Tasteless much there CDCgov?
@luckytran As a black person, I have seen worse. If they would have chosen an Asian person (considering trump and his magats were calling it the "China virus"), the CDC would have A LOT of explaining to do
@luckytran @cdcgov Predictably disgusting.
@luckytran
CDC are sociopaths, and at this point are just messing with us. The masks have come off, so to speak.
@cdcgov @luckytran See header block, that's a blind-replication account.
@luckytran more outrageous bc according to these assholes the pandemic has been over for 3 years.
@luckytran It's absolutely outrageous that they make humour with a public health crisis.
@luckytran This has to be fake. I refuse. This is horrible.
@seawall
Nope. Unless someone hacked the CDC Instagram account, it's as real as can be.
@luckytran That is just wrong. Especially since it comes from a government agency.
You have to consider the environment the CDC operates in. Their fundamental, unqualified mandate is to prevent loss of life.
The Red Cross at one point dropped mouth-to-mouth as part of CPR because their data showed that potential rescuers, faced with mouth-to-mouth (no pun intended), were less likely to attempt resuscitation at all, so much so that when the "requirement" for mouth-to-mouth was dropped, so many more attempts were made that survival rates actually went up.
The CDC calculates the appropriateness of their statements with this same sort consideration.
They'll say or do whatever helps to reduce loss of life, even when an improvement is only the difference between worst and worse and it's obvious to every reasonable person it could be so much better. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@luckytran Disappointing to say the least. Hate that my tax dollars pay for this drivel.
@luckytran and here I was worrying that my Toots come across as too mean in all probability whichever intern made this meme received accolades from Maskless Mandy
@luckytran "Respiratory" viruses are bad so make sure to... wash your hands...
It would be incredibly disappointing if they start recommending masks after Democrats win the election.
@luckytran their goal seemed to make it an endemic so big pharma could milk it for all its worth while also normalizing it to keep us working for dirtbag executives benefit. No concern about our health or the science it was always about short-term economic interests.
@Sh4d0w_H34rt @luckytran true, it's mostly just following the political science.
@luckytran it is just post covid trauma - you have to deal with life - if you get sick you get sick. it was funded by nih, this is not a shiny conspiracy theory but grounded in science #ground beef
@luckytran I’d guess they have to now that the states are placing mask bans.
when sick, stay at home to prevent the spread of illness
I thought this was AMERICA
Jokes aside, who do they think is gonna pay for that?
@luckytran This is so disgusting!
@luckytran So, why is it on the individual to protect themselves and not the collective to protect everyone?
The CDC is a joke itself.
