But this could soon be a crime, as one of the mask ban bills prohibits masks at "lawful assemblies."
Here's the bill: "IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON OR PERSONS, INVOLVED IN A LAWFUL ASSEMBLY, UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY, OR RIOT, TO WEAR A HOOD, MASK, OR DEVICE WHEREBY THE PERSON OR THE PERSON'S FACE IS DISGUISED."

@luckytran That would include cops who cover their name badges then.
@luckytran@medmastodons.com It sounds like people who are immunocompromised cannot wear a mask unless it is a public health emergency. If so, I will never be visiting New York State.

@luckytran A lawful assembly would include a concert, right? So if you work at a music venue and your boss won’t give you leave because you have COVID, you’re now banned from wearing a mask to try to avoid giving it to unsuspecting attendees and coworkers unless there’s a declared public health emergency?

@luckytran a similar law was passed in the previous century in Virginia in the 1920s. It was an anti-Klan law. Before panicking about something passed by a liberal legislature, you might want to look into its background.
@edlin @luckytran The fact that older laws have roots in fighting the KKK doesn't mean that current laws are beyond criticism. These new laws are in response to university protests against genocide, not the racist terrorism of the KKK, and they disproportionately impact those of us who are high risk for COVID.

@luckytran @shortridge My house is that green zero (that’s my outdoor sensor that must’ve died; the indoor one near the open window is 222). Los Angeles. I’m actually surprised the fireworks have such a measurable effect.
