Almost one million people (combined) marched for a ceasefire today in London and Washington DC. Wow.

@luckytran
Yemen: Genocide Emergency

"Yemen’s conflict has developed into a proxy war between the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government, which is supported by an international coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The U.S. has backed the Saudi-led coalition."

That's awesome. I wonder if opposition to Israel's genocide will wind up producing global protests bigger than those opposing the US invasion of Iraq?

@luckytran So, what is the chance of these (re)fueling the COVID transmission?

@luckytran Trying to Where's Waldo myself on there but it's a kind of terrible 8 bit Where's Waldo where each person is about 10 pixels. One of those flags in the lower left? Whole mess of people went on way past that frame and not everyone in the rally was in the march and vice versa. Ceremony was long.

@luckytran If there were any charter bus companies on the verge of bankruptcy in the US, we saved them, but that's probably all we saved because both major parties figured out that if they third rail themselves at the same time, they can third rail themselves all they want.

@luckytran And the little media tents totes reminded me of medieval knight's tents. But you also can't put tens of thousands of us white people in one place and have us not try to re-imagine some kind of *archy. And I guess people were climbing on top of the sat link truck and blocking the signal, then when they got shouted down, they stole the keys and ran off which is imo hilarious. Then there was a kid dressed as Spiderman climbing absolutely everything with a Palestinian flag.

@luckytran

I would like to believe that. All of the reports I'm reading refer to the crowds in DC as being "in the thousands." (Except one overtly pro-Palestinian site that said "tens of thousands.")

In DC, the police no longer report size estimates (because they got tired of everyone on both sides of every event saying the police were lying).

But one-million would be very significant. Do you have a cite on that?

@luckytran "They should call for Hamas to release the hostages!"

Why? The Israeli government doesn't want those hostages. The Israeli government says Hamas are terrorists. The Israeli government is an internationally recognized, allegedly democratic government. We put public pressure on internationally recognized governments. Is Hamas not a terrorist organization now? Will they be more responsive to public opinion than the Israeli government?

So many interesting premises beneath that statement.

@luckytran wish people could do the same for Ukrainians

@luckytran @BroGle isn't 100s of billions of euro and a bankrupt eu enough price to support the freaking ukraine?

@faab64 @luckytran not if Putin would go further especially with help of NKorea and China - he wants to control EU - just like it was controlled after ww2 😉

@luckytran

Australia: This is how it’s done.

@Npars01 @luckytran Putin wanted oil prices up and a distraction from his failure in Ukraine. All his little dictator friends are stirring shit up, and he's using them all.

@tornuggla @luckytran

Rachel Maddow describes in her book "Blowout", the fossil fuel industry is deeply corrupt & anti-democracy.

Netanyahu wants the fossil fuel resources of Israel, Lebanon, Gaza for himself.

Bombing Gaza out of existence ensures Netanyahu gets that revenue running through his corrupt pockets.

The GOP is the "Gas & Oil Party", owned & operated by the fossil fuel industry.

en.m.wikipedia.orgNatural gas in the Gaza Strip - Wikipedia

@Npars01 @tornuggla @luckytran massive oil reserves on the Golan Heights. Big reserves in Gaza both on and offshore. None of this belongs to Israel, doesn't stop them bringing in the exploration bids.

@FloydyStu @tornuggla @luckytran

Netanyahu intends to rob the Gazans of their share of the proceeds from these fossil fuel resources.

@Npars01 @tornuggla @luckytran and why not? They've already robbed them of their land, their homes, their livelihoods, their possessions, their dignity, their memory, their lives.

@luckytran

I hadn't reflected upon the oil-factor in this, but it seems of course plausible, however cynical...

But @Npars01 also made it sound like there was a certain reason for it to be just now, I guess as opposed to a year ago or next year. 🤔

@tornuggla @luckytran @Npars01
The fossil fuel industry knows that they have to get Democrats out of power if they want to continue selling their polluting products.

They are going all out trying to stir up as much conflict as possible, cause inflation, weaponize migrants, and of course supporting efforts to split opposition to their personal political party the GOP.

The Guardian · ‘Project 2025’: plan to dismantle US climate policy for next Republican presidentBy Dharna Noor

@luckytran impressive, I wonder if ALL those people (as some dare to say) are antisemtes and Hamas supporters
(Of course not, bu I heard that statement earlier, to my horror)

@luckytran
Wonder how many called to release all hostages and denounced Hamas abuse....

@snijsure absolutely thinks george floyd should have just followed instructions and been compliant
