Really tired of electeds still using an outdated script saying their symptoms are minimal a couple of days after getting COVID.
This ignores the risks of long-term health effects from COVID reinfections, and downplays the importance of taking steps to prevent infections in the first place, like wearing a high quality mask.
These days, the only time politicians even mention COVID is to say they have minimal symptoms. This disastrous comms strategy has played a role in decreased vaccine uptake.
Studies show people are more motivated to get vaccinated when they learn about serious health effects like Long COVID.
It's really sad seeing a progressive politician setting a bad example by encouraging working when sick. Firstly, you need to rest to reduce your risk of Long COVID. Second, this goes against progressive goals of better working conditions, more time off, and sick pay.
Previously, many Congress members have announced they only had "mild" cases of COVID, only for it to surface months later that they developed Long COVID, even forcing some to retire. Politicians need to stop ignoring and minimizing Long COVID.
@luckytran Strange. Inhofe is not at all known for denialism.
@luckytran
Well that's a catch-22 if I ever saw one. If you don't have it, you ignore and downplay it. If you have it, you have to retire from the position where you'd have had the possibility to do something about it.
It’s going to be really hard for me to create a wish list and have it include only five Republican Senators.
I get the sense many people have stopped caring because it’s become largely a malaise of the elderly and a number of ‘unlucky’ people. It’s less hassle to feel lucky and leave the oldies to fend for themselves.
Myriad other issues will be at work regardless: disability, mobility, convenience, budget, etc.
@f800gecko @luckytran
And of course no one ever imagines themselves to become one of the “unlucky.”
@luckytran It will test us all, but I'm confident the Republic can overcome the loss of Sen. Snowball in Congress.
