@luckytran

I love your toots but I'm going to have to beg to differ on this.

The best way to reduce your risk of getting Long Covid is to not get Covid.

The best way to reduce your risk of not getting Covid is to wear a well-fitted N95+ respirator/mask/elastomeric

That's what needs to be pushed, not vax and don't mask.

@justyourluck @luckytran Absolutely agree - until we have a neutralizing vaccine that can prevent transmission, vaccination is much less important for prevention of long covid than masking.

Vaccination is very good for stabilizing demand on health care systems, but vaccines only impact likelihood of infection in the short term - and any infection can result in or worsen LC.

Masking is good for preventing surges in health care needs *and* for preventing long covid.

@justyourluck @luckytran It does say "One of the best ways.” I would be astonished if Dr. Tran spoke against masking.

@Cassandra @justyourluck @luckytran I've followed Dr. Tran for some time and have no doubt the doctor's message is "vax and mask" -- and take other precautions as well when you can (e.g. seeking out well-ventilated or outdoor spots when you must be among crowds, etc.). Let's hear it for multiple layers of protection!

@BruceMirken @Cassandra @luckytran

I've also been following Dr. Tran for some time as well and you cannot assume that someone seeing him for the first time will know what his message is and will likely go by what they read... which is vax vax vax.

Yes, multiple layers of protection may seem obvious to you and me but look around you.

I see a scary majority of people going about life unprotected save for a booster or two.

I STAND by my statement that the message needs to stop being just vax.

@justyourluck @BruceMirken @luckytran

I'm not disagreeing with you on a medical basis. You, Dr. Tran and I are all in agreement that vaxxing isn't enough.

Dr. Tran accounted for this by using the phrase "One of the best ways." That necessarily means there are other ways that Dr. Tran ranks as “best.”

You're responding as if Dr. Tran said "The best way,” singular to the exclusion of other ways. It misrepresents the toot and, I would say, potentially undermines the good work Dr. Tran is doing.

@Cassandra @BruceMirken @luckytran

No. I'm responding as if the mass of people not wearing masks because they think they don't have to if they are vaccinated, will take this and other posts by other people promoting vaccine only as validation to "get back to normal" and continue to not mask.

I'm not "misrepresenting" anything.

If the people with huge followings continue with that message, we'll get nowhere. But hey thanks for defending someone who pretty clearly doesn't need defending.

@justyourluck @Cassandra @luckytran The problem with your reasoning is that the overwhelming majority of Americans are not up to date on their vaccines.

@luckytran
Unfortunately it's not possible here. The vaccinations are only given to certain groups and atm I can't even buy it for myself 😭

@luckytran I’ve been vaccinated 8 times (2 from a phase 1 trial) and to date, have avoided getting COVID

@erica_sea55 @luckytran Got it my first time in September since they moved the vaccine dates from 8 months to one year. Since they no longer require your vaccine card going to try and get back on the 8 month regiment.

@luckytran I'm fully vaxxed & boosted. I got Covid a year ago, and I felt like I cheated because I was only symptomatic for 4 days.
