New York Times: "There are more Americans who say they have serious cognitive problems than at any time in the last 15 years, data from the Census Bureau shows. Researchers point to long Covid as a major cause."

You can ignore COVID, but COVID will not ignore you.

The sizable increase in people experiencing different forms of chronic illness is a result of bad government policies.

Allowing mass repeat infections increases society's overall disease burden. We must to more to prevent COVID and treat Long COVID.

Here's another important chart showing there are far more employed disabled Americans since COVID because (a) remote work made employment more accessible & (b) more workers became newly disabled.

We need to continue remote work & increase structural supports for disabled people.

@luckytran
I'm puzzled. Employed increased by two mill but unemployed barely shifted instead of decreasing by a similar count?

@AlisonW @luckytran Almost like there's 2 million working people who who have accrued a new disability since the start of the pandemic.

@luckytran

Ignoring the science and lives of millions of people for short term economic gain. Where have i heard this before?

@luckytran Does Everyone Have Serious Cognitive Decline Because Of Masking In Schoools? Dr. Leana Wen Answers

@luckytran

I don't see any reason why cognitive problems resulting from a COVID infection would be confined to longhaulers, only that they will be more conspicuous among longhaulers. They'll get nearly everyone in the end. That T-cell radioisotope tracing study demonstrated as much.

We are fucked. Even I didn't think it was going to be that bad. In retrospect, I realize that my relative optimism was unwarranted.

@luckytran An analysis of motor vehicle accidents before & since Covid appeared, in many countries, would be interesting.

@luckytran. Very interesting data. Has anyone looked at the detailed questions in the National Health Interview Survey? The top-line disability result has barely moved over the last 3 years, but I haven’t seen anyone pull out the cognition questions and look at the trend in those since 2019.

@luckytran So the assumption I had about the overall lowering of IQ has been statistically tied to covid... I wonder how much of this covid ignoring is caused by covid itself. Sneaky virus.

@luckytran

Despite the covid scaremongering, the US remains the best-performing major economy globally, a hub of technological innovation, and the only Western nation capable of countering China's totalitarian tendencies. China's economic situation appears to be significantly impacted by its stringent zero-tolerance COVID policy.

Future generations will be more concerned with the covid debt, as opposed to the "long covid."

@luckytran

And we were cognition-ing so well before that.... ugggh.
