Phew! The CDC's independent vaccine advisory committee, the ACIP, voted 13-1 to recommend the updated booster vaccines for everyone 6 months and older.

It’s great that the boosters won’t be heavily restricted as rumored and instead will be available to virtually everyone.

The new vaccines will be available in pharmacies within 48 hours after the CDC director approves.

@luckytran Why pharmacies and not clinics? Backwards IMO.

@garthc @luckytran Do the clinics order them through pharmacies?

I don't think it likely you'd be expected to administer it to yourself?

@luckytran I just made appointments at CVS for next week for 'Moderna COVID-19 2023-2024' vaccines.

@luckytran had i known that, i probably wouldn't have made a bivalent booster in europe just before traveling to the US 😅. But good for everyone else!

@tshirtman @luckytran CDC suggests getting new booster two months after bivalent if you’ve gotten it recently (at least the work group recommending suggested that). So hopefully you can get it sooner.

@GeorgiaOnMyMind @luckytran yeah, won't stay long enough (did the dose friday, staying 2 weeks), hopefully we get it in europe next year or so 😔. But good to know, thanks.

Though I could probably do it *anyway* if it's just a suggestion (dunno if they ask for info about vaccination status, they certainly don't have that), can't really hurt…

@GeorgiaOnMyMind @tshirtman @luckytran Interesting. I had my bivalent in June and was thinking I'd have to wait to get the new one. Maybe I can do flu and Covid shots at the same time after all!

@luckytran who is the holdout? I feel like they are either worth listening to or are more likely completely batshit

@luckytran So we are just supposed to mindlessly do what they say, without solid reporting of the numbers, informative breakdowns on what's going on with these variants and how these new vaccines will address the variant changes and possibly affect the health of some groups. Personally, I'm not sure exactly how much at risk I am, because the few numbers out there are incomplete and don't really give a picture of what's going on. I've had three shots, but I weighed the information previously.

@luckytran Fantastic news!!
I just got mine scheduled (the new 2023-24 booster configuration) for 8 days from today!

@luckytran who was the 1 who voted against, and why?
