There are many real long-term solutions to the pandemic:
Regulate indoor air quality
Create better vaccines that reduce transmission
Develop effective Long COVID treatments
Don't give in to minimizers who wrongly claim there's nothing more we can do to prevent #COVID.
Minimizers claim there's nothing more we can do to prevent reinfections or #COVID isn't harmful anymore.
Don't accept the lies. They only stop much needed investment & political momentum for effective solutions like cleaning indoor air, better vaccines, & #LongCOVID treatments.
Politicians and #COVID minimizers have figured out that they can deceive and manipulate public opinion into accepting high levels of mass death and harm so they don't have to do more. Effective solutions to the pandemic exist. Don't let them sabotage the potential for action.
As we push to implement real solutions to the pandemic like cleaning indoor air, better vaccines, & #LongCOVID treatments faster, it's important to continue to encourage immediate actions like masking so that we can slow reinfections and make public spaces accessible to everyone.
The pandemic isn't over just because we aren't seeing morgue trucks on our blocks. Many are still dying, millions have chronic illness, higher risk people are being excluded from society. Current policies do not adequately address continued harm. We need more effective solutions.
We have the science to clean indoor air, create vaccines that reduce transmission, & develop #LongCOVID treatments. What's stopping us is the lack of political will because politicians are gaslighting us that the pandemic is over. We need to push back & fight for real solutions.
"Living with COVID" means implementing effective solutions that reduce harm and make society accessible to all, not ignoring it.
@luckytran Tell that to your fellow med-mastodoner Matthew Loxton. Yes, I’m subtooting him before I crash from dealing with his abuse just now. So much for getting any work done this afternoon.
@luckytran I wish we would do this. I feel like death
@luckytran what people think is a long-term solution: Pretend COVID isn't a problem anymore
@luckytran Unfortunately, Viruses replicate, mutate, and adapt, much faster than large mammals like humans. With increased population density, letting nature take its course favors the viruses for long term survival, not the humans.
@luckytran Good list, but I would add indoor mask wearing, remote work, and wastewater tracking (to inform different levels of precaution)
@luckytran also encouraging people who are symptomatic to stay home, and having sick leave available for those people
@luckytran also: eliminate vaccine patents and ensure all vaccines are free for everyone
Would this not just prevent Covid from spreading but may also help prevent influenza and perhaps other future pandemics, ?
