"...no one is being compelled to send in the cops on students & faculty...the vision of university presidents, newspaper editors & our current president is aligned around repression of dissent as the first & best response to what is happening on our campuses." https://www.insidehighered.com/opinion/views/2024/05/23/why-was-police-repression-default-response-opinion
@gregggonsalves
There's a correct way to protest.
That does not include overtaking colleges.
That's when they become terrorists.
When you decide to interrupt my child's education, then you become a terrorist.
When you block traffic and stop my husband from coming home after work , you are a terrorist.
Your views on Gaza are not the same as mine.
I object to terrorism and want all terrorists eliminated.
@palin @gregggonsalves Because your child is so sensitive they can't walk around a camp of people protesting in the name of peace. You wanting people eliminated because they are terrorists after having called all protesting students terrorists means that you want idealistic young students killed. Who is the terrorist now?
@ariaflame
Don't like it?
Learn to scroll.
@palin @gregggonsalves keep defining correct protest methods around everyone else's convenience, and suddenly the only protest allowed is sitting around and accepting atrocity
@ATLeagle
I don't give a crap if someone protests but when you interrupt my child's education, or my husband's time then FK Y.
You are not protesting , you are terrorizing and I will call the cops myself.
I don't do bullies.
Those morons stopping traffic on the bridge should have gotten their a$$e$ beat.
@wndlb
Sorry but you can play word twist all you want.
My views stand.
And I could care less about the fate of any terrorists.
When protesting turns violent or destructive , then they should be dealt with just like every other criminal...
@palin inconvenience isn't terror.
You are justifying and supporting every oppression that ever existed. You can, it's allowed, but please understand what your view really is " People under the thumbs of others must remain there forever"
@ATLeagle
Have you wasted enough time today ?
You stated your opinion, I stated mine.
@SailorDisco
Nope ...
And you want to play word twist too.
Selma was a peaceful protest and nothing more.
They were not destroying property, interrupting colleges or stopping people from going about their daily business.
And your argument is the absolute weakest thing I have read today...
@palin And these student protests have been largely peaceful with almost all of the violence coming from counter protesters or from the police once they’re brought in. Another thing to keep in mind is the accusations you’re making now are the same accusations that were used to try to shut down every single peace and civil rights protest movement in the past 100+ years. I get that you don’t want to be personally inconvenienced, who does, but there’s no such thing as a convenient protest.
@SailorDisco
And you have the right to your opinion...
Just as I do.
And when a protest becomes destructive , then it's no longer a protest, it's terrorism and I want them dealt with the same way any other terrorist should be.
Not into anarchy...
@gregggonsalves
It's been so bizarre to see McGill university begging the cops to come arrest it's students and faculty in the ends moment, and having the *police* refuse because they don't see a threat.
@gregggonsalves When I see this passage, I can only think the author should walk a mile in a university president’s shoes. Which, believe it or not, is not much of a defense. Read on….
They are under extraordinary pressure and their background, being intentionally selected from among the elite, ill prepares them for this situation. The ugly truth is that university presidents are selected for their fundraising prowess. That is their primary job duty.
They are not selected for their expertise in critical theory, migration issues, settler-colonization issues, politics, or any issue relevant to Israel and the Occupied Territories. They are selected for an ability to milk college football for every penny in every way and to look suave while they’re doing it.
And that, right there, is a large part of the problem with academia today. It leads to all sorts of problems even before we see students beaten up on college campuses.
@gregggonsalves Repeat: the Irish police/garda never went anywhere near the Trinity College Dublin protest. And the college authorities soon agreed to the students' demand. Ireland, for all its faults, is a civilized country; the USA can't even manage to be so under the Democrats.
@gregggonsalves There's a correct way to be a law enforcement officer.
Letting policy and politic be the driving factor of twisting the law to enact violence in an attempt to control the population, undermines any perceived authority your institution thinks it had.
Undermining you're institution intentionally to try and gain support from those who use hypocrisy as a shield is siding with those who desire violence as the law of the land. Truth will win out. Cowards and terrorists strike 1st
