Striking new change in packaging in #France
No plastic for fruit and veg!
Some exceptions, but it's still striking to see.
#ClimateChange #plasticfree #plastic #fruit #apple

@gpollara this needs to be established everywhere!
I guess it comes down to cost, but personally I would ask "If they can do it now, what have they been waiting for all these years?"
Why does it take a law banning the use of single-use plastic packaging before retailers or manufacturers will do anything major towards reducing #ClimateChange?
@Jon6705 yeah, you're absolutely right, agree it's frustrating it's taken until now. I guess it simply comes down to economics. Until now plastics have been cheap and convenient. We can just be pleased that conditions are being created now to disincentivise plastic use. Can't correct errors of the past sadly.
@kas argh! Especially coconuts, they come in their own natural packaging!!
@gpollara they’re the same in (edeka in) Germany. So that’s two large markets covered.
@doc great to hear!
@gpollara we’ve had reusable see-through produce bags for probably 5 years. It’s not hard.
@clacke that's a good point. I guess the hope is that if more and more energy originates from renewable sources, then the input for paper and cardboard is less important.
But you make a good point. In the end the aim is to use **less** packaging overall.
@gpollara cling film makes sense for broccoli
@twobiscuits personally not really, I prefer it without. I wash and cook it anyway, so no hygienic risks in my opinion.
@gpollara It goes off overnight when exposed to air. That's the reason - to avoid waste.
