Wow, this seems a very draconian and impractical stance for to take for its grants involving foreign partners! 👇

Article below haa a full takedown. @academicchatter

"Beginning October 1, 2023, foreign subaward recipients will be required to provide the U.S. prime grantee “copies of all lab notebooks, all data and all documentation that support the research outcomes…no less than every six months, or more frequently based on risks”"

@gpollara @academicchatter

Interesting. Part of the implementation of the data-access mandates?

@BorisBarbour @academicchatter not sure. Sounds like its mostly a data / funding traceability issue but weirdly more onerous on foreign institutions than d
US ones

@gpollara @academicchatter

And we thought timesheets for EU grants were tedious. Still, it will force pretty solid working practices on those labs!

@BorisBarbour @academicchatter yes, unless the real objective is to dissuade non-US collaborators to participate and receive funds from the NIH.

That was my gut instinct response when I read it, but I may be too cynical!

@gpollara @academicchatter

The 6-month interval seems extreme, but I can imagine they might be worried about getting the data after the money has been spent.

@gpollara @academicchatter Another administrative burden on PIs. Many are leaving academia bc of such burdens that reduce their time dedicated to doing actual science.

@schoppik @gpollara @academicchatter I personally know of 4. They know others. Don’t expect names. That’s rude.

@schoppik @gpollara @academicchatter Wow. I thought we left that crap behind in Twitter…..
