We commonly use to treat and even sometimes as prophylaxis for recurrent infections.

Super safe but a reminder that rarely it can cause serious complications

@gpollara @infectiousdiseases @microbiology What are your thoughts on d-mannose for recurrent e.coli UTI?

Gabriele Pollara

@noodle @infectiousdiseases @microbiology we definitely use it alongside or often after trying methenamine. However, evidence for its efficacy remains scant. This is the best evidence from an open-label link.springer.com/article/10.1

Thanks for the link!

I've had very poor performance with menthanamine, I think because my patients take alkalinisation agents despite being told not to. In a primary care setting my experience with D-mannose in pure E.coli recurrent UTI in otherwise well patients is probably a little better than that RCT showed...... I should make time to formally audit or RCT this...... After my current projects.
