So I'm completely ignorant of all of this ... but is this related to a general idea I've seen (probably from unqualified people too) that there's growing awareness of the significance of infectious pathogens to diseases otherwise or previously thought of having no connection to pathogens?

No tbh, this is just a couple of case reports of a rare bacteria causing endocarditis. Only quirky that there is a clear exposure to explain the rare bacteria. ID physicians love this kind of stuff. And has a bit of an educational component. Unexplained fever in a goat handler. Think Staph caprae!
