Appears I have significant sensorineural hearing loss & tinnitus thanks to #COVID19, >3 months later:
Thanks to the withdrawal of masking in schools.
N95 masks didn't protect me & my partner.
One-way masking isn't as effective, full stop, & has negative consequences.
Appreciate the kind sentiments but I made the statement to bring attention to this as an after effect. So many people have experienced long covid in one form or another.
Just wanted to clarify "negative consequence".
By public health officials telling us "Mask if it's right for you" that's suggesting a vulnerable person is protected if they mask on a bus, among a sea of unmasked persons, where say several are shedding virus. It doesn't take long for an SARS-CoV-2 aerosol cloud to build up.
So the physics are important. Ventilation on buses = Bad. The quality of mask is important. The more vulnerable among us are more often lower income. Chances are they cannot afford an N95. Thus you have the differential impact of the pandemic on the poor & vulnerable.
However, we all know new public health actions are unlikely. Healthcare will remain in for years.
This will be recognized as one of the great social injustices of the @fordnation@twitter.com GOV (& others) in 4-5 years time, once a full autopsy of the pandemic response is completed.
