Terminations hit hard on April Fool's Day, but it's not a joke. As many as 10,000 workers are expected to be laid off at HHS, including many top health officials. Peter Marks, the FDA's top regulator overseeing vaccines, was forced out last week. Additionally, Peter Stein, director of the Office of New Drugs, and Brian King, director of the tobacco center, both will be leaving the agency.
"The cuts affected people who help approve new medicines, track emerging pathogens,

& uncover the secrets held in our DNA. But they also reached those developing safer tobacco policies, trying to reduce injuries, and protecting people who rely on Medicare and Medicaid — as well as the staff who made the agencies operate day to day and aimed to communicate health updates, new recs, etc."
Offices at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Devlpmt and the Genome Research Institute were eliminated Tuesday & the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDs will be cut, too.

How does terminating some of our best scientists & leaders in public health, slashing Medicaid access, cutting grant funding, shuttering key agencies, etc. make America healthy again? It doesn't.
2000 of the nation's top researchers sent an open letter Monday calling for a halt to the "wholesale assault on US science...We are sending this SOS to sound a clear warning: the nation’s scientific enterprise is being decimated.”
