Carpingdiem

I walked through a meadow filled with hundreds, probably thousands of tiny grasshoppers that flung themselves into the air at my approach. I assumed they were all the same, but there were at least 2 different kinds in the grass. See ALT for details.

This red legged grasshopper is less than an inch long and has reddish legs. For a size comparison, those are blades of grass he is hiding behind.
This is an Atlantic grasshopper. It is less than an inch long. For comparison, that is a blade of grass it is perched on.
