Alberta's measles outbreaks are now the worst in nearly half a century | CBC News https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alberta-measles-most-cases-half-century-1.7559973 “Alberta's measles surge is so dramatic, the last time case counts were higher Calgary did not have an NHL team, O Canada was not yet the official national anthem and gasoline would set you back 24 cents a litre.”
@auscandoc Do we know which groups are the least likely to vaccinate? Is it the anti-government Right? The granola Left? Certain religious groups? The population in general?
@mpjgregoire Mixed bag…… but nowadays more aligned with right/conservative ideology.
@auscandoc
Interesting. It would be nice to see it from the inverse perspective though: what percentage of CPC/LPC/NDP/BQ voters didn't get vaccinated against #covid19?
I've read that some of the current measles outbreak seems to be linked to Mennonite communities: https://www.simcoereformer.ca/news/local-news/norfolk-health-officials-navigate-measles-outbreak-and-vaccine-hesitancy-in-religious-groups
Would measles and covid-19 vaccine hesitancy be closely correlated? Some people said they had concerns about the mRNA aspect of the latter, though perhaps they were just looking for excuses.
@mpjgregoire The answer to your first question is in the graph. (Ish… requires some math).
Yes.. Mennonite communities. But they are also quite variable. Some do some don’t. Depends almost entirely on the whim of the head man. Yes really. Can have polar opposites side by side.
Yes.. COVID vaccine hesitancy bleeding into other vaccines.
@DavidM_yeg What happens in Alberta… doesn’t stay in Alberta…. https://energeticcity.ca/2025/06/13/multiple-measles-cases-confirmed-in-wonowon-northern-health-issues-public-warning/
Obviously, this historic increase has absolutely nothing to do with the conservative, denialist culture supported by the Albertan government and its Prime Minister...
@michelmorin Not sure if you are being ironic… but it’s “Albertan government and its Premier”
(The USA ambassador was being deliberately provocative and calling her “Alberta Prime Minister”)
An attempt at irony... Obviously missed...
