What about decreasing body temperature to manage refractory hypoxemia, decreasing CO & VO2, on VV #ECMO?? This in silico study predicts that use of therapeutic hypothermia might improve oxygenation. Cooling to 33°C increased SaO2, PaO2, SvO2 & PvO2. The improvement is greatest when the underlying problem is high cardiac output with low EBF/CO ratio, but there is still benefit if high recirculation.
