Happy Loving Day !
Today, June 12th, 2023 marks the 56th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia case, which made interracial marriage legal across the United States. People tend to forget that this is something that happened in our lifetimes. My husband was just 3 months old. Let us all continue to stand for equity for all, and love for all, no matter what that love looks like! #LovingDay Share your photos here if Loving Day applies to you!
@DrFNA yes! Happy Loving Day! In this environment it's super important for folks to know how recently interracial marriage was illegal. Here's me and my wife
@szeis4cookie Beautiful couple!
@DrFNA My great niece and her husband just celebrated their Loving Day marriage, 8th anniversary.

Alito explicitly mentions the cases of Loving v. Virginia (guaranteeing the right of interracial marriage), Meyer v. Nebraska, (the right not to be sterilized without consent), Obergefell v. Hodges (the right to marry a person of the same sex) and Lawrence v. Texas (the right to engage in private, consensual sexual acts), among many others.
“None of these rights has any claim to being deeply rooted in history,” Alito wrote.
Just a reminder, we're still not safe.
@thatsten not at all, sadly.
@DrFNA 2008 (when this pic was taken) was a long time ago but we're still having a ball!
@DrFNA It's wild to think that we needed two court cases to get here. It'll be 11 years this fall.

@caranmegil I love it!
@DrFNA my family would not be legal in many states without Loving v Virginia. Nor would many of my cousin’s families as well as countless friends and neighbors.
@Rycaut y’all are beautiful! Love this!
